CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN
I woke up sore. My body took a beating last night, and I feel it today. I need a hot shower, pronto. Stretching my sore muscles, I look around to find the bathroom door slightly open with steam pouring through.
Climbing out of bed, I approach and give a small knock. "I'm running over to my apartment. I'm going to shower and stuff."
"You can always shower with me." I can hear the smile in his voice.
"Tempting." And it is. Incredibly tempting. If it wasn't for the deformed marks, I hide I totally would. "But all my stuff is over there."
"Watch yourself. Drew will be out for blood when he wakes up."
I laugh, "It's his own damn fault."
"He'll blame us."
"Want to hide at my apartment instead?"
"Sure. I'll head over in a bit."
"Kay." I smile to myself as I back away from the door.
It's stupid to be this happy that he wants to be around me, but fuck it. I'm soaking up as much happiness as I can while it's here. The stairs prove challenging, but each step is a delicious reminder of last night. Dominating, mad Parker is fucking hot, and I kinda hope I piss him off again so I can have that version return.
I cross the courtyard and unlock my door unable to wipe the stupid grin off my face. Throwing my keys on the table, I close the door before my world comes crashing down.
"About time."
A yelp escapes my throat as I spin around. I'm face to face with the Devil himself.
"How did you get in here?" Moving slightly, I put the table between us. Parker said he'd be over when he was done. Please, God, if you can hear me, don't let him come.
"Amazing how easily people believe a lie."
"Why are you here?" I'm pleased my voice stays strong even though I am anything but on the inside.
"Now, let's try using that head of yours, daughter of mine. Why am I here?"
"I haven't talked. No one knows anything." Parker stay away; for the love of God, stay away.
"I don't think you're dumb enough to talk, Ryan. I'm here to collect a debt."
"Debt?" I breathe, trying to think how I could possibly owe him.
"You're eighteen. You were approaching seventeen the last time I saw you."
No! No, I can't. Not again. Reaching into my bra, I pull out every bill on me and throw it on the table in front of him.
"Consider that my buyout."
An evil chuckle pours from his lips as he collects and counts the money. "Four grand." He whistles, "Looks like you're doing well, not nearly as well as Reno, but fair."
Pocketing the money he takes a step closer, on instinct I step back, deeper into the apartment, opposite of where I want to be.
"I'll consider this penance for running, but you still owe a debt."
"How much?" I don't know how the hell I'll get more money, but I'll die trying if it keeps him away.
He shakes his balding head. "I have no need for more money, Ryan.
